Living Through Terror

In the era of war on terror, the term terror has tended to be applied to its sudden eruptions in the metropolises of the global north. This volume directs its attention to terror’s manifestations in other locations and lives. The contributions consider terror’s effects in ignored and silenced locations where terror is either naturalised (the Philippines, South Africa, Timor Leste, Sri Lanka) or made invisibile (the neo-liberal democracies of Australia and Italy)._x005F_x000D_ Living through terror is not a state of unrelieved despair, passivity or helplessness but is frequently a process of active engagement, creating and desiring. Including, poetry, visual art, fiction and critical writing, the volume demonstrates that theorising, storying, building and resignifying are all necessary acts of agency undertaken by subjects in societies of terror._x005F_x000D_ This book was published as a special issue of Social Identities
