Footbridge Vibration Design
The increasing lightness and slender attributes of footbridges have brought new design requirements that must be considered. Despite the small loads associated with pedestrian traffic, two landmark projects, the Millennium Bridge in London and the Solferino Bridge in Paris have shown the significance of human-induced vibrations and their dynamic effects in long-span footbridges and have given rise to new methodologies for their assessment and control. This volume captures the intensive research and the development of new numerical and experimental tools for assessing and controlling pedestrian effects, along with new design guidelines and recommendations.
