Aims and scope
The Research Chronicle’s aim is to provide an avenue of publication for articles that make extensive use of apparatus such as indexes, catalogues, inventories and calendars relating to particular musicians, institutions, collections or archives. There are no set limits to the length of articles but longer articles (e.g. up to 25,000 words) are considered.
Conventionally, the Research Chronicle has published in the area of historical musicology but articles from all areas of music research are now strongly encouraged. The emphasis on articles with substantial apparatus remains.
All articles published in the Research Chronicle have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.
About RMA Research Chronicle
The RMA Research Chronicle was established in 1961 and is unique in the world for its publication of articles that make extensive use of indexes, catalogues, inventories and calendars relating to particular musicians, institutions, collections or archives.
For most of its history, the Research Chronicle has published in the domain of historical musicology, but in 2013 the scope of the journal changed and it now accepts submissions from all areas of music research, for example ethnomusicology, popular music and music psychology. The emphasis on articles containing extensive apparatus remains unchanged but these may now include compilations of fieldwork data and, in the online version of articles, colour photographs and graphics, screen grabs and audio and video files.
