Originally published in 1928, the preface reads: "It is almost impossible to distinguish between what is ‘elementary’ and what is ‘advanced’ in regard to the nervous system. The constitution and functions of that system are so little matters of common knowledge that it would be safe to assume that practically nothing of its physiology is known to the ordinary reader..." Today it can be read and enjoyed in its historical context.
