The Journal of Sports Sciences has an international reputation for publishing articles of a high standard and is both Medline and Clarivate Analytics-listed. It publishes research on various aspects of the sports and exercise sciences, including anatomy, biochemistry, biomechanics, performance analysis, physiology, psychology, sports medicine and health, as well as coaching and talent identification, kinanthropometry and other interdisciplinary perspectives. In addition to reports of original research, the Journal also publishes review articles, case studies, letters to the editor, short communications and book reviews.
The emphasis of the Journal is on the human sciences, broadly defined and applied to sport and exercise. Besides experimental work in human responses to exercise, the subjects covered will include human responses to technologies such as the design of sports equipment and playing facilities, research in training, selection, performance prediction or modification, and stress reduction or manifestation. Manuscripts considered for publication include those dealing with original investigations of exercise, validation of technological innovations in sport or comprehensive reviews of topics relevant to the scientific study of sport.
Physical Activity, Health and Exercise
Submissions should have a clear focus on the public health outcomes associated with physical activity. Papers may stem from any established scientific approach, including population studies, randomized control trials or structured reviews and should include a clear rationale for the work and ideally practical implications arising from the findings.
Physiology and Nutrition
The Physiology and Nutrition section publishes original work with a strong conceptual backdrop associated with the following areas of scientific investigation: exercise physiology; nutrition; molecular and cellular biology; genetics; epigenetics; and kinanthropometry.

Social and Behavioural Sciences
This section publishes original work associated with the following areas of scientific investigation: psychology; neuroscience; motor control and learning; motor behaviour; and expert performance. The work will have clear theoretical and applied implications and ideally have implications beyond the domains of sport and exercise.
Sports Medicine and Biomechanics
This section publishes original research manuscripts and invited review papers associated with the following areas of sport and exercise science: biomechanics; musculoskeletal and neuromuscular biomechanics; gait and posture; and sport and exercise medicine.
Sports Performance
The Sports Performance section publishes original work with a focus on the measurement of one or more aspects of performance. We particularly invite manuscripts from the sub-disciplines of performance analysis and coaching and from cross-disciplinary areas such as talent identification. Manuscripts that focus on core sub-disciplines such as physiology, psychology and biomechanics are encouraged only where the emphasis is clearly on sports performance rather than on identifying mechanisms or processes. Papers that involve interventions, performance and training modelling or on methodology and measurement are particularly welcome.
The Journal publishes on behalf of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Sciences, in partnership with the World Commission of Science and Sports and in association with the International Society for Advancement of Kinanthropometry. Hence, the readership for this Journal is varied and ranges from academics to practitioners from a range of disciplines and areas of application.
