The Sculpture of Reform in North Italy, ca 1095-1130

Entirely fresh and original in its methodology, this monograph offers a new approach to the study of Romanesque façade sculpture, focused on such monuments as the Benedictine monasteries at Nonantola and San Benedetto Po and the cathedral at Modena. This study moves scholarship beyond well covered issues of style and connoisseurship, instead opening new and fruitful lines of inquiry into the patronage and historical significance of these extraordinary monuments.
