Sebastiano del Piombo and the World of Spanish Rome

Despite the status of Sebastiano del Piombo (c.1485-1547) as a significant figure of the High Renaissance—he was a close associate and rival of the central artistic figures of the period, notably Michelangelo and Raphael—no recent scholarly study in English has focused comprehensively on his life and times. This book re-appraises both the place of the artist both in the canon of Renaissance art and in the cultural worlds of Early Modern Italy and Spain in which he operated.
